Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Applications of Modelling and Simulation (AMS) journal published by ARQII Publication is committed to meeting and upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractices. The journal’s responsibility is to publish original work in the best possible form and to the highest possible standards. We expect similar standards from our reviewers and authors. The author’s submission implies that the manuscript is from original work, is not plagiarized, and has not been published or being considered elsewhere. The journal is fully committed to good publication practice and behaves in accordance with the codes of conduct and international standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org). Hence, Authors, Reviewers and Editors are required to conform to standards of ethical guidelines.

Below is a summary of our key expectations of editors, reviewers, and authors. Descriptions of plagiarism, conflict of interest, authorship, dealing with misconduct and ethical oversight are also given.

 

AUTHORS’ RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Authors have the responsibility of ensuring only new and original work is submitted.
  2. Authors should not reproduce work that has been previously published in other journals.
  3. Authors should not submit any articles that are being reviewed or considered by the journal to other journals simultaneously.
  4. Authors are only allowed to publish their work elsewhere after receiving a formal rejection from the journal or if their request to withdraw their work is officially accepted by the journal.
  5. Authors should inform the Editor or the publisher of any inaccuracy of data in their published work so that correction or retraction of article can be done.
  6. Authors should secure the necessary reproduction rights with the rights holder for any third party material (images, digital content, etc.) that have been used in the work prior to submission.
  7. Authors must ensure that all simulation data, algorithmic results, and mathematical models presented in their manuscripts are authentic, accurate, and reproducible.
  8. Authors should obtain appropriate consents, permissions, and releases where a simulation model or case study utilizes proprietary industrial data, corporate datasets, or third-party software.
  9. Authors should ensure that authorship is limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the research works and reporting.
  10. Authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or conflict of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

 

REVIEWERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Reviewers should disclose any competing interest before agreeing to review a submission.
  2. Reviewers should review all submissions objectively, fairly and professionally.
  3. Reviewers should review all submissions only for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
  4. Reviewers should reveal any ethical misconduct encountered while reviewing to the Editor for further action.
  5. Reviewer should ensure the originality of a submission and be alert to any plagiarism and redundant publication.
  6. Reviewer should not discuss the content of the submission without permission.
  7. Reviewer should adhere to the time allocated for the review process. Requests for extension to review the submission are at the discretion of the Editor.

 

EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. The Editorial Board should actively contribute to the development of the journal.
  2. The Editorial Board should continuously support and promote the journal.
  3. The Editorial Board should disclose any conflict of interest.

 

EDITORS’ RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Editor should evaluate all submissions fairly and solely based on their intellectual merit.
  2. Editor should evaluate all submissions only for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
  3. Editor should ensure confidentiality of manuscripts and not disclose any information regarding manuscripts to anyone other than the people involved in the publishing process.
  4. Editor has the responsibility to decide when and which articles are to be published.
  5. Editor should give clear instructions to potential contributors on the submission process and what is expected of the authors.
  6. Editor should ensure appropriate reviewers are selected/ identified for the reviewing process.
  7. Editor should act if they suspect misconduct, whether a paper is published or unpublished, and make all reasonable attempts to persist in obtaining a resolution to the problem.
  8. Editor should guard the integrity of the published record by issuing corrections and retractions when needed, and pursuing suspected research and publication misconduct.
  9. Editor should not allow any conflicts of interest between staff, authors, reviewers and board members.

 

PLAGIARISM

Authors should submit only original work that is not plagiarized, and has not been published or being considered elsewhere. The editorial office will check for similarities of submitted manuscripts with existing literature by using appropriate software. Inclusion of fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unacceptable. Work and/or words from other publications must be appropriately cited or quoted.

 

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

A statement on conflict of interest must be included in the manuscript if authors receive any support that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed. 

 

AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTORSHIP

  1. Name of authors listed in a paper should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the report. Only those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors.
  2. Others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the work must be acknowledged or listed as contributors.
  3. It is the duty of the corresponding author to ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper.  All co-authors must approve the final version of the paper and agree to the version of the paper before submission.

 

COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS

AMS is committed to handle complaints and appeals against the journal, its editor and editorial board according to the COPE’s guidelines (https://publicationethics.org/appeals).

 

DATA INTEGRITY AND ETHICAL OVERSIGHT

In accordance with the guidelines provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), AMS maintains strict oversight over the integrity of all published work. Given the journal’s focus on computational methods, mathematics, modelling and engineering simulations, our ethical oversight framework specifically prioritizes:

  1. Data Integrity and Falsification: Strict prohibition of data fabrication, manipulation, or plagiarism in computational models, code, and simulation results.
  2. Handling Confidential and Proprietary Data: Ensuring secure, authorized, and ethically compliant use of industrial or organizational datasets within simulation models.
  3. Ethical Business and Marketing Practices: Guaranteeing total transparency in journal management, robust peer-review processes, and a strict adherence to non-predatory publishing standards.

AMS is fully committed to considering and investigating any allegations or appeals concerning the non-observance of these ethical principles by authors.

 

CORRECTIONS AND RETRACTIONS

AMS is committed to maintaining the integrity of the academic record. In accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines, the journal will issue:

  • Corrections: If a minor error is discovered that does not invalidate the research findings but requires a formal change.
  • Retractions: If there is clear evidence that findings are unreliable (either due to misconduct or honest error), if the work constitutes plagiarism, or if the research is unethical.
  • Expressions of Concern: If there is inconclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct by the authors, or if there is evidence that the findings are unreliable but the authors’ institution will not investigate the case.

All corrections or retractions will be linked to the original article and will be clearly identified for transparency.
